Economist, Québec et la Francophonie

The Fraser Institute has an opening for an Economist based in the Institute’s Montreal office.  This position offers considerable scope to help set and contribute to the Fraser Institute’s leading edge policy work in Quebec and other French-speaking markets.

Role & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Directrice, Québec et la Francophonie, the Economist, Québec et la Francophonie will be responsible for:

  • Identifying and directing research projects appropriate to the mission of the Fraser Institute in Québec et la Francophonie;
  • Writing and editing research reports, documents and opinion pieces;
  • Identifying, within the Institute, other research projects which could have an impact on or be of interest to Québec et la Francophonie;
  • Where necessary, supervising translation of same from English into French;
  • Working with other Fraser Institute research colleagues and the Media Coordinator, Québec et la Francophonie, to produce opinion pieces to support said research;
  • Providing French media commentary as required on Institute research affecting Québec et la francophonie;
  • Contributing to the enhancement of the Institute’s reputation for quality analysis through liaison with peers, maintaining visibility in the media and keeping abreast of issues relevant to the field of expertise;
  • Supervising interns and research staff as required;
  • Contributing articles to Institute publications and external publications;
  • Participating in other institutional activities involving annual planning, student seminars, events, weekly meetings, etc. 

Qualifications:

Strong candidates will have these qualifications and experiences:

  • An MA in economics;
  • A minimum of three years experience;
  • A demonstrated ability to write policy reports;
  • An ability to be self-directed and grow a research department;
  • Theoretical and empirical grounding in the role of competitive markets;
  • Excellent oral and written French language skills, superior oral and written English language skills.
Duration: Full-time
Salary: Remuneration, which includes an attractive benefits package, will be commensurate with experience.
