The Fraser Institute has an opening for an Economist with applied statistical skills in its new RJ Addington Centre for the Study of Measurement.  This position offers considerable scope to help set and contribute to the Fraser Institute’s leading edge research in Canada and around the world.

Role & Responsibilities

This full-time position, based in Vancouver, offers a great deal of growth and development within the Centre. The specific role within the department will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and level of education. The Economist will be responsible for:

• Undertaking research across a wide range of public policy topics;
• Collecting and managing large data sets;
• Conducting statistical analyses;
• Developing methodological approaches to measurement;
• Writing and editing research reports and documents;
• Launching and administering an international awards program;
• Contributing articles to Institute publications;
• Liaising with other research staff on joint projects;
• Participating in other institutional activities involving annual planning, seminars, policy briefings, events, meetings, etc.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have these qualifications and experiences:

• Master’s or PhD degree in Economics or Statistics;
• Strong empirical skills;
• Background and interest in applied statistics;
• Up to date knowledge of technical issues related to measurement;
• Excellent communication skills including the ability to write material in a clear manner to non-technical audiences;
• Desire to contribute to the debate around public policy issues and the role of competitive markets;
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
