The Fraser Institute has an opening for an intermediate-level position as an editor and typesetter in its Vancouver office. Working under the direction of the Director of Publications, this full-time position offers the opportunity to work in a busy department that publishes a wide range of publications.
Primarily, your job will be to copy-edit Institute publications following the Institute’s style guide and to typeset some of the Institute’s publications. Working in conjunction with the graphic designer and production editor, you will use Adobe InDesign CS3 to lay out the text, tables, and graphs in the Institute’s publications.

Qualifications:

To be successful at this job, you will have a passion for publishing and infographics, be an ardent advocate for clear communication, know general economic and business terminology, and have an interest in the use of new technologies for disseminating information. Further, you will understand the Institute’s work and be drawn by a desire to help communicate its message clearly. Consideration will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated ability to typeset large tables quickly and accurately.
You will need an appreciation of good typographical design and experience with standard publication production procedures, including working quickly, on multiple projects, using templates, and completing projects by tight deadlines. A degree in journalism, English literature, or a related discipline is expected. Experience with recent versions of Adobe InDesign, Acrobat, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver is highly desirable; familiarity with other products in the Adobe Creative Suite will also be an asset. Successful candidates will be comfortable working on the Windows operating system and appreciate the challenge of working in both print and digital media. The ability to edit or typeset in Chinese, Arabic, French, or Spanish would also be an asset. You will work willingly as part of a team, but be flexible and able to work independently. Please be prepared to show a portfolio of your work.
