Business/Data Analyst

Activities:

The Fraser Institute has a full-time opening for a Business/Data Analyst (BDA) responsible for the acquisition, verification, and preparation of data for use by the School Performance data reporting system and subsequent testing of the system’s output.  The position is based in the Institute’s Vancouver office.

Role & Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director, School Performance Studies, the job responsibilities include:

• Development, maintenance, and enforcement of an end-to-end business process as well as its day-to-day operation including;
• Requesting data from provincial and state departments of education and other data sources;
• Working with these data sources to ensure data accuracy and acceptable formatting;
• Performing a variety of verification tasks on inbound data;
• Timely delivery of verified data to analysts; and,
• Resolution of data-related issues raised by data analysts;
• In addition, the BDA will complete testing/verification of data analyst’s output.

Qualifications:

Required education, skills, and experience
• Bachelor’s degree with focus on statistics, mathematics, and/or computer science;
• Demonstrable familiarity with business analysis including documenting skills;
• Demonstrable familiarity with MS Excel, particularly, statistics-related tools;
• Knowledge of database concepts.

The ideal candidate will also possess:
• Knowledge of and experience with system design, database design and operation;
• Knowledge of and experience with SQL Server 2005, particularly SSIS, and MS Access.

In addition to the above technical skills, the BDA will also possess
• Excellent verbal communication skills;
• Ability to interpret and understand issues, concerns and requirements;
• Ability to work in an interactive, dynamic team environment; and,
• Ability to adapt to changing situations and demands with flexibility and professionalism.

Duration: Full-time
Salary: Remuneration, including an attractive benefits package, is commensurate with experience.
