Peter Chylek is a Professor of Physics and Atmospheric Science at Dalhousie University in Halifax. For ten years he held the AES/NSERC Research Industrial Chair in Climate Research and Marine Meteorology. He has established and developed a world-class research oriented graduate level atmospheric science program at Dalhousie University.

The Department of Physics at Dalhousie University has been recently renamed the Department of Physics and Atmospheric Science to reflect the program's national and international recognition.
