Norman B. Keevil

Dr. Norman B. Keevil has been in the mining industry for some 50 years. After stints with the GSC and Placer Development, he joined Teck Corporation in 1962. He became President and Chief Executive Officer in 1981 and Chairman and CEO in 2000. Following the acquisition of the minority interest in Cominco in 2001, Dr. Keevil became Chairman of the merged company, now Teck Resources Ltd., a role he continues in today.

Dr. Keevil has received an Honourary Doctorate of Laws from the University of British Columbia, the Canadian International Business Leader of the Year award from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the Master Entrepreneur of the Year award, and the Inco Medal Award from the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. In 2004 he was inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.

Dr. Keevil is a Life Director of The Mining Association of Canada, as well as a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews. He received his B.A.Sc. in Applied Geology at the University of Toronto, his Ph.D. at the University of California (Berkeley), and his LL.D. from the University of British Columbia.
