Economics for Journalists

This graduate seminar-style training program is for journalists seeking to enhance their economic knowledge and reporting skills and network with their peers. Through lectures, simulations, and discussions, two experienced economics professors will demonstrate how economics can be used to better understand the world around us, and provide real, relevant examples from Canadian society.

Full bursaries are available to cover all program costs including travel, accommodation, conference tuition and materials, as well as included meals. Bursary requests can be made on the application form. Accommodation will be provided for the nights of June 6th, 7th, and 8th for out-of-town participants and will be provided for June 9th only where necessary.

For those not requesting a bursary:

  1. The conference fee is $600 for Metro Vancouver residents, which includes conference tuition and materials, included meals, and valet parking at the hotel for each day of the program.
  2. The conference fee is $1200 for non-local participants (those residing outside of the Metro Vancouver area), which includes conference tuition and materials, included meals, and accommodation. Accommodation will be provided for the nights of June 6th, 7th, and 8th and will be provided for June 9th only where necessary. Travel is not included in the conference fee.

The program begins at 5:00 pm on June 6th and concludes at 11:30 am on June 9th. Please note that there are a limited number of spaces available, and selection of participants is at the sole discretion of the Fraser Institute.
