Addington Centre for the Study of Measurement

Named for the late Raymond Addington, former chairman of the Fraser Institute Board of Trustees, the Addington Centre for the Study of Measurement was established in 2008.

The Centre commemorates Mr. Addington by awarding the annual Addington Prize to a person or team who has researched a new, interesting, and important concept in public policy, exemplifying the Fraser Institute’s motto: If it matters, measure it.

In September 2011, the Addington Prize was awarded to Montana State University professors Terry L. Anderson and Dominic P. Parker, for their groundbreaking work in measuring the economic consequences resulting from the lack of private property rights on American Indian reserves. Anderson and Parker’s winning paper, which was published through the Property & Environment Research Center (PERC) in Bozeman, Montana, reveals that Indian bands subject to state civil property law experienced significantly faster economic growth and rising incomes compared to tribes not subject to state jurisdiction.
