Professor Ross McKitrick, one of Canada's leading
Environmental Economists, has joined The Fraser Institute as
Senior Fellow. The announcement was made today by Dr. Michael
Walker, Executive Director of the Institute.
"I am very pleased to be joining such a distinguished group of
scholars and public policy experts," says McKitrick. " Critical
thinking on environmental policy is more important than ever. I
am particularly attracted by the fact that the Institute not only
tolerates but encourages a collegial atmosphere of informed
controversy in which a wide variety of views is considered," he
noted. "This is precisely what Canada needs."
Professor McKitrick holds a Ph.D. in economics from the
University of British Columbia. He was appointed Assistant
Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of
Guelph in 1996 and Associate Professor in 2000. His area of
specialization is environmental economics and policy analysis.
Dr. McKitrick has published numerous scholarly articles in
academic journals as well as commentaries in newspapers and other
public forums. He has made invited academic presentations in
Canada, the US and Europe, as well as professional briefings to
the Canadian Parliamentary Finance Committee, and to government
staff at the US Congress and Senate.
"We are absolutely delighted that we have been able to attract a
person with the depth and scope of Ross McKitrick. His past and
forthcoming work place him squarely at the forefront of both the
science and the policy analysis of environmental issues and we
are looking forward to learning from him how to craft
environmental policy which serves the legitimate goals of
environmental protection and economic development," says Walker.
The Fraser Institute is an independent public policy organization
based in Vancouver, with offices in Calgary and Toronto. The
Institute specializes in market-based solutions to public policy
challenges. Professor McKitrick will be associated with the
Institute's Toronto and Vancouver offices and will focus on
issues of national and international importance.
Dr. McKitrick is a distinguished addition to The Fraser
Institute's diverse roster of Senior Fellows including Murray
Allen M.D., Professor Eugene Beaulieu, Professor Paul
Brantingham, Martin Collacott, Professor Steve Easton, Gordon
Gibson, Dr. Herbert Grubel, Mike Harris, Professor Ron Kneebone,
