The annual Economic Freedom of North America Report once again finds that Alberta is the province with the highest level of economic freedom, while the next freest province, British Columbia, ranks 43rd out of 93, followed by Ontario (47th), Saskatchewan (50th), Manitoba (53rd) and Quebec (54th), as most of the country continues to rank in the bottom half across the continent.

According to this year’s Human Freedom Index, Hong Kong—which in 2010 was the third-freest jurisdiction on earth—now ranks 46th as a result of mainland China’s increasing restrictions on liberties in the territory. China is among the least-free, ranking 149th out of 165 jurisdictions this year.
