1. How do I apply for the Economics for Journalists program?

You can find our application form online on www.fraserinstitute.org/education-programs/journalists/economics-for-journalists-application-form.

2. Is there a fee to attend the program?

No, there is no fee to attend. In fact, we also cover your transportation (flights, train, vehicle, etc.), accommodations, and most meals!

3. I’m interested in attending, but I normally do not cover topics related to economics or public policy. Can I apply?

Yes – participants from all journalism backgrounds are welcome to apply!

4. I’m a Canadian journalist currently living and working abroad. Can I apply?

Unfortunately, we cannot accept applicants that are currently living and working abroad.

5. I’m an international journalist currently living and working in Canada. Can I apply?

Yes, you are welcome apply.

6. What are the expectations or requirements for Economics for Journalists participants?

Participants are expected to attend the full program, which includes the welcome reception/dinner on Thursday, and the full 2.5 day program. Participants are required to stay at the hosting hotel for 3 nights (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) unless they are local to the program.

7. I want to attend the program, but have other commitments that would require me to arrive at the program later or leave the program earlier. Can I still apply?

You must be available to attend the full duration of the program prior to accepting your placement. If you are not available, please contact us to be added to the list for future programs.

8. When will I learn about the status of my application?

You will be notified about the status of your application in mid-September.

9. I have participated in the Economics for Journalists program in the past. Am I eligible to attend again?

As the content in the program stays the same from year to year, we do not recommend applying for the Economics for Journalists program a second time. That being said, you are welcome to apply for our advanced program Policy for Journalists, that takes the economic concepts learned in Economics for Journalists and applies them to public policies. We also encourage you to share the opportunity with your colleagues!
