The State of the Environment in Canada
In this presentation, Dr. Aliakbari will examine the state of environment in Canada to provide a clear understanding of Canada’s environmental record. Dr. Aliakbari will examine the evolution of Canadian air quality since the 1970’s onwards, and discuss how the current state of air quality compares to the stringent standards established by Canadian government polity. She will assess the state of water quality in Canada as well as assess Canada’s performance on a host of environmental indicators (i.e. air quality, water quality, emissions per capita, etc.) relative to other industrialized countries.

Prof. Fike will discuss the ways in which some societies impose additional restrictions on the economic choices women make – restrictions that do not apply to men. We will discuss some of the theoretical arguments in favor of economic freedom, then examine data that measures some of the economic consequences of legal and regulatory codes that prevent 50% of the population from engaging in productive, voluntary transactions.

People across the ideological spectrum want to break up big tech companies. What many advocates fail to think through, however, is precisely how breaking up these companies would work, and what the impact would be on both these companies and the broader tech marketplace. Breaking up tech companies means that government has to break up the firms’ teams and underlying technology. It also has to put into place a legal and regulatory system that keeps the targeted firms separate from other markets. In short, it is a regulatory death sentence.
