Alberta saw spending reductions of 20 per cent during the reforms of the 1990s.

The province closed out the decade with an estimated $36.6 billion in net debt.
Last year, the province ran a $6.7 billion operating deficit.
To eliminate the deficit, the government’s four-year plan will cut program spending by 1.6 per cent over four years.
The Kenney government plans to reduce spending by 1.6 per cent over four years.
