Hugo M. Montesinos-Yufa

Hugo M. Montesinos-Yufa is a Ph.D. Student of Economics at Florida State University (FSU). He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB) in Caracas, Venezuela, an M.S. in Statistics from USB, a Master in Economics from FSU and a B.S. in Production Engineering from USB. He also studied two terms of the M.P.P. at the University of Chicago. He has served as the Director of the Center for Statistics and Applied Math at USB, full professor in the Department of Statistics and Scientific Computing at USB and adjunct professor in the Center of Finance at the Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administración (IESA) in Caracas, Venezuela. In addition to being a professor, he did consultant work in Venezuela for private companies, consulting firms, banks, and the oil industry in Venezuela. He has published in Public Choice, Journal of Institutional Economics, Applied Economics, Econ Journal Watch among other journals. His most recent co-authored publication will appear in the European Journal of Political Economy entitled “Unbundling the roles of human capital and institutions in economic development.” He has been interviewed in the Venezuelan National Television regarding institutional topics and by the USB regarding more technical topics such as Econometrics issues. At least one video is available on Youtube, in Spanish, under “La econometría. Diálogos USB # 86.” He won the Venezuelan National Olympics in Physics and Mathematics, including the Gold Medal in the Physics National Competition and the first place in the National Experimental contest in Physics. He received the Youth of the Year Award from his hometown in Maracay, Edo. Aragua. His current interests include comparative economic development, new institutional economics, economic freedom, and econometrics.
