George Melville

Jim Treliving and George Melville are chairmen and owners of Boston Pizza International Inc. (BPI). Together, they set the corporate strategy for Boston Pizza and for several other businesses in which they have invested, collectively known as the T&M Group of Companies. Starting from a single restaurant franchise in 1968, the T&M Group today has operations throughout North America in the retail, manufacturing, real estate and service sectors with annual system-wide sales exceeding $1 billion.

Jim is a former RCMP officer who opened the very first Boston Pizza franchise in Penticton, British Columbia in 1968. George is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants who at that time was with the local office of Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. A friendship was soon formed and, ultimately, a business partnership that has lasted more than 40 years. Together, Jim and George have grown their operation from one location to almost 400 restaurants across North America and have invested together in many other successful businesses in Canada and the United States. Their partnership has been recognized over the years with several prestigious awards including "Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies Platinum Club", "Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures", the Henry Singer Award from the Canadian Institute of Retailing and Services and, most recently, the Canadian Franchise Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

In addition to their professional responsibilities, Jim and George are active in giving back to the community. They have been directors of the Boston Pizza Foundation since its inception in 1990 and have helped raise and donate over $14 million to Canadian charities. Jim has also served on a number of volunteer boards including the Hockey Canada Foundation, the David Foster Foundation and the Richmond Hospital Foundation. George has served on boards including Kwantlen Polytechnic University, the Okanagan Innovation Fund and the Premier’s Economic Counsel. Currently, Jim stars as one of the five Dragons on CBC’s reality TV show, Dragon’s Den, where aspiring entrepreneurs secure a financial investment from the Dragons to start their own business.
